My Favorite Things: January 2019
At the end of each month, starting now, I want to round up some of my favorite products, activities, restaurants, etc! The categories will rotate throughout the months, but I’ll always have a decent variety of “my favorite things!”
This month, I added some color to my wardrobe, went to Disney World, and added something to my skincare routine. There was a lot of that I loved this month, but I tried to keep it short!

SKINCARE + BEAUTY
I’ve been getting dip manicures for a few months now, and I have to say, I’m in love! I used to get gel or acrylic nails, but the UV was too harsh on my sensitive skin, and usually incited an eczema flareup. Each dip manicure I get lasts for 3 solid weeks without any chips, and even though the color choices can be a little limited, I’ll still always choose dip over gel. It’s been a better value for the price (about $10 more than the gel manicures I would get at the same salon), and when the dip powder comes off, my nails look much healthier than they did after the gel came off. Having such a hard coat on my nails has let them grow without breaking, and it’s been nice to have the length I want without having to get acrylics put on. Of course - everything is best in moderation, so I’ll be switching back to regular polish shortly!
I was given the jade roller (as well as a Gua Sha tool) for Christmas, and I’m absolutely in love! I’d been eyeing them for a while, but now that I actually incorporate them into my daily skincare routine, I can say that my pining was worth it. I get really puffy under my eyes, and my skin serves as a reflection of how sleep-deprived I get during the school year. After a month of using the jade roller, I’ve noticed bouncier, firmer, and slightly less tired looking skin (sleeping would fix that though)! I roll in the morning after washing, toning, and applying a serum. After my nightly wash, I follow up with a balancing moisturizer, and a Gua Sha massage.
Don and I gifted each other Quip toothbrushes for Christmas. He got me the copper one, I gave him the all black. The 2 minute timer (with 30 second pulses) makes it easy to focus on each section of my teeth, and the soft bristles are noticeably less abrasive than my previous brush!
CLOTHES + ACCESSORIES
The Dream Chasin’ Rainbow Knit from Dressed in Lala is quickly becoming one of my favorite new sweaters! It’s not too heavy, has a nice plushness to it, and who can resist those rainbow stripes? I’ve been trying to add more color and excitement to my wardrobe this month, and I think I did a pretty decent job! Lots of rainbow touches, like both of these Superga sneakers, and this lightweight knit top from Forever 21*!
I’m definitely a fan of having subtle touches that are reminiscent of my favorites place in my wardrobe. This Dream Suite necklace from Make it Minnie is the perfect way for me to add some magic to my daily style! This particular necklace is currently in the vault, but Ashley has so many amazing pieces of jewelry on her site - be sure to check them out!
On the note of rainbow touches in my wardrobe, I wound up (unintentionally) with two different pairs of rainbow Superga sneakers! I intended to wear the rainbow platforms during our January Disney World trip, but they didn’t arrive in time. I ended up finding the other pair (rainbow laces) the night before the trip at a Nordstrom rack! Sad that I didn’t get to wear my pastel rainbow stripe platforms, but so happy to have them in my closet now! PS: these ran a full size big for me.
The Out from Under Jojo thermals have been SUCH staples for me this winter. I got my first one back in the fall, and have added two more recently. They’re light enough that I was able to wear it as a sweater on a chillier day in Florida, but warm enough to serve as a perfect layering top during winter in Pennsylvania.
DISNEY
This year is the start of what I hope will be a great year of travel. While we have a few things tentatively planned, venturing to the Most Magical Place on Earth for our first trip was definitely a great way to start the year. We’d never been in January before, and never seen Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts, so this trip was one for the books!
There were changes around all four parks this month at Disney World, especially with kicking off Mickey + Minnie’s Surprise Celebration in Magic Kingdom, and Festival of the Arts at Epcot. The parks were also hit by the Potion Purple craze, which I don’t totally love, to be honest, but I loved the ears a lot more in person and picked up a pair for myself - and one to giveaway on my Instagram soon!
Cute snacks are EVERYWHERE throughout the parks right now. This Mickey sprinkle Krispie was probably the best Krispie treat I’ve ever had in the parks! Three snack themed Alex & Ani bracelets also showed up in the parks this month, and since a new Alex & Ani bracelet is one of my trip traditions, I treated myself to two from the new collection! Mickey Bar, Minnie Donut, and Dole Whip bracelets debuted this month. I snagged the Mickey Bar and the donut!
*The Krispie and the bracelets are not currently available for online order.
