blogmas 2020: my favorite subscription services this year

2020 was peak “a package has arrived” season. as it became increasingly difficult to shop safely in person, we all got a bit more creative as to how we get out groceries, meals, and everything in between. today i’m sharing 6 subscription services that I’ve used a lot this year (some I started using this year, some I’ve been using for a while, but they’re all perfect for quaran-times).

care/of

i’ve been using care/of for a little over a year now, but am always happy to sing its praises. it’s super convenient, easy to get what you need and only what you need, and in the grand scheme of things, affordable. I was previously buying my vitamins separately (as in i’d buy a separate bottle each of a multivitamin, vitamin-c, pre/probriotic, etc) I and when I compared the cost of my monthly vitamin purchases to monthly care/of (for the same vitamins), I either broke even or saved. you can take a super easy quix to help you get started and figure out a vitamin routine that works for you!

you can sign up using my referral link here! you’ll get 50% off of your first order!

dashpass

the whole “cooking for myself” thing kind of flew out the window other than the copious amounts of bread baking that happened this year. I for sure have been ordering a lot of takeout over the past few months, both easing the cooking load on my AND supporting local restaurants while they’re closed for in-person dining. it’s $10 a month and gets your free delivery and reduced fees on orders over $12 from participating restaurants. it’s honestly saved us so much $$ this year!

billie

billie was a purchase I made at the end of january - I wasn’t feeling well (this was the onset of the pneumonia that i’d have for like 3 weeks). and wasn’t in the mood to go out and buy razors, so I lazily signed up for the subscription. I shave about once a month, and you’re able to customize your subscription to fit your shaving schedule. they’re honestly the best razors i’ve ever used, easy to travel with, come with a shower clip, and I never have to think about running to the store for razors/razor heads ever again. I get 4 refill blades every 3 months for a total of $9.

shipt

in all honesty, this was an accidental subscription. I was in a free trial, forgot to cancel before my card was charged, so here I am, having paid $99 for a one year subscription, using it as often as I can to get my accidental spend’s worth. honestly I took a break from writing this post to place a shipt order for stocking stuffer candy (and oat milk…and la croix). saves me from spending extra money in target, going to a store and just generally being around other humans. thank you to the person who is actually going to the store and getting my groceries - please always tip your drivers/delivery people!

they’re currently running a promotion through 12/27 where you can gift a one-year subscription for 50% off!

verb

as i’ve been working in person throughout the pandemic, my morning coffee runs have been…frequent. i try to cut out caffeine as much as possible, but definitely go through waves of a daily coffee run. I started eating a verb bar in the morning instead (and/or in the afternoon for a boost) - they have as much caffeine as a shot of espresso, but don’t give me a caffeine crash, and I don’t get caffeine withdrawal headaches if I stop eating them (which I’m super prone to getting when I cut back on coffee). you get texts with your order updates/need to place an additional order, etc. my favorite one by far is salted peanut butter!

right now, you can get the starter pack for only $12 when you sign up!

honorable mention: the NYTimes and the New Yorker! news, yes - but mainly I love their crossword puzzles. great for keeping your brain active and fun when you have a little extra time!
